Elliot was born with a heart condition that required surgery. His disease is degenerative and more surgeries may be necessary in the future. His recovery has prevented him from playing hockey, and he can’t wait to return to the ice soon. Elliot's favourite NHL team is the LA Kings and he has always dreamed of traveling to Los Angeles to watch them play on home ice.
Elliot and his family received a hockey fan’s ultimate wish experience. On the first day of the trip, Elliot and his family were met at the Kings’ practice arena in Los Angeles, The Toyota Sports Center, by Bailey, the Kings’ mascot, who presented them with an “Elliot” jersey and other team merchandise. Elliot visited the alumni locker room where he met the players before practice. They presented him with a signed puck and a glove worn in a Stanley Cup game.
After practice, Elliot was shown into the players’ locker room where they displayed his honorary locker next to his favourite player. It was an incredible honour for Elliot.
They showed off their skills in the shooting gallery where Elliot received some tips—a real thrill for him since he hasn’t played hockey in a year. Elliot also met (then) head coach Willie Desjardins, and Kings’ commentator Daryl Evans. This whirlwind of a day ended with Fox West Sports interviewing Elliot about his wish experience.
On game day, Elliot and his family were invited to spend the day at the STAPLES Center. Elliot sat on the team bench where he got fist-bumped by the team before they hit the ice for a warmup, and he stood on the ice during the national anthem.
After puck drop, Elliot joined Daryl Evans in the broadcasting booth for the first part of the game. Elliot also had a chance to show off his dance moves on the jumbotron.
Elliot said of the experience, “I feel like more than a VIP, I feel like a VIP plus!”
“It was all so very emotional for Elliot,” says his mom Diana. “Elliot was so happy he cried. Elliot’s whole wish experience has been so amazing, much more than we ever thought it could be.”
A special thank you to everyone who participated in the George Koutroubis Golf Tournament. Your generosity helped to make Elliot’s wish come true.
Thank you also to the LA Kings, Toyota Sports Centre, STAPLES Center, A Celebrity Limousine, TuGo, and WestJet.
