Make-A-Wish WishLife Newsletter 2018

Wish Life - 35 th Anniversary Issue 3 Thirteen-year-old Debbie was living with leukemia, when BC Children’s Hospital introduced her to a group of friends that would soon transform her life and those of other children with critical illnesses across the country. Using their own money and resources, the group granted Debbie’s wish to visit her grandparents in Germany. She passed away shortly after returning to Canada. In Debbie’s memory, and with her wish as inspiration, the small group created the first Make-A-Wish ® office in Canada. Thirty-five years later, Make-A-Wish ® Canada has granted more than 7,500 wishes to children like Debbie. With each wish, comes renewed strength and encouragement for every child and family we serve. We believe that, just as they have for the last 35 years, wish experiences will continue to play a vital role in a child’s treatment, serve as encouragement on a family’s journey and provide a source of inspiration for millions of people. In 1983, a young girl in British Columbia had a wish… What’s Inside This is the power of joy. This is the power of community. This is the power of imagination. This is the power of hope.
