Réjean and Joanne Cardinal, owners of Sucrerie du Ruban in Sainte-Anne-de-Prescott, Ont., hosted Dérick’s Pancake Day on April 20 – a special fundraiser to honour their son who passed away suddenly in 2006. Dérick loved maple syrup season which is why Pancake Day is so fitting.
Dérick’s Pancake Day has raised more than $185,000 for Make-A-Wish® Eastern Ontario since it first started 10 years ago. Money raised helps to create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses in the region.

Lana Paton is an adventurous Make-A-Wish® Rope for Hope veteran and mom of two, with a “soft spot for children’s charities.” She currently sits on the National Board of Directors for Make-A-Wish® Canada, and has since 2015.

On June 1, 2018, Paul embarked on an epic coast-to-coast fundraising ride in Canada affectionately called, The Wunder Wheels TransCanada in support of Make-A-Wish®.
Make-A-Wish®Rope for Hope is Make-A-Wish® Canada’s national signature fundraising event that calls on participants to fundraise a minimum of $1,500 in exchange for the thrilling opportunity to scale down the side of an iconic city building. Joe Hittel, an 83-year-old man from Red Deer, Alberta, was inspired after seeing rappellers at a 2017 Rope for Hope event and was determined to participate in 2018.
