Liam is 9 years old, loves camping and animals and is living with a neurological condition. Because he’s non-verbal, Liam communicates mostly by blinking and smiles a lot when his brothers are around. A big Star Wars fan (his favourite toy is a light saber!), Liam wished to have a Star Wars-themed man cave; a space where he and his brothers can play, hang out and watch movies together.
To keep the basement redesign a surprise, Liam and his family spent the weekend at West Edmonton Mall while volunteers worked on the man cave. “What an exciting weekend,” said Liam’s mom, Jennifer. “The weekend was the first vacation we have taken since before Liam had his stroke - almost 4 years. We had so much fun and even though it was a short time we felt we had been gone for a week!”
Topping off the weekend was coming home to see Liam’s wish brought to life. “When we got home we were completely delighted with the amazing basement transformation! The team did such an amazing job of the design and really created an amazing space we can enjoy as a family.”
Creating a more accessible space for Liam means he has an inviting, cool place to hang out with his friends that fits his needs. “I can't say thank you enough for the wish experience for our family,” says Jennifer. “It brought us together and we were so grateful for all that they did for us. We haven't had so much fun in many years, and we look forward to new memories together as a family in the years to come as we enjoy this wonderful space!”
Liam’s wish was made possible by some incredible donors and volunteers, including Neill McDonald, Plastics Plus, designers Kat and John, Ashley Furniture Warehouse, West Edmonton Mall, Sony Canada and The Home Depot. Thank you!
