Kate's Wish Boosts Her Confidence

Kate is a creative soul who loves to paint and perform on the ice rink as a figure skater. She also loves shopping and is excited to start high school next year. Her wish was inspired by this momentous occasion.

Kate was diagnosed with a gastrointestinal disorder at the age of two that has caused pain and disruption in her day-to-day life. Her symptoms have worsened significantly in the last year as her body stopped responding to her medications. Kate remains hopeful and is looking forward to standing out at her graduation.

She could think of no better place to find the perfect graduation dress than the famous West Edmonton Mall. She wished to go there to find her dress.

Kate and her family stayed in a room at Fantasyland Hotel inside the shopping centre and received VIP passes to the mall for the week to explore everything it has to offer.

The first order of business was to find the dress, of course. After trying on almost every dress in Le Château, and with assistance from her own store stylist, Kate found THE ONE. She was also accessorized from head to toe to complete her new look.

With this very important task accomplished, the family was ready to have some fun. They were treated to a private cabana at the World Waterpark, skated at the Mayfield Toyota Ice Palace, enjoyed a meal at The Old Spaghetti Factory, and visited Galaxyland (North America’s largest indoor amusement park). Another highlight for Kate was her makeover at Sephora where she received a facial and makeup application.

“It was an amazing experience just to be able to get away and share this with Kate,” says Karen, Kate’s mom. It was just what she needed to have that confidence for her graduation.”

Thank you to Make-A-Wish Toronto & Central Ontario partner, Dave & Busters Oakville, for supporting Kate's transformational wish experience.

Special thanks as well to Sony Canada Charitable Foundation for helping Kate’s family capture every memory with a new camera, and to TuGo for providing the medical insurance that allowed the family to enjoy this trip without worry. Thank you also to WestJet, Global Limos Edmonton, Fantasyland Hotel, West Edmonton Mall, The Old Spaghetti Factory, Le Château, and Sephora for helping to make Kate’s wish come true.

When a wish is granted, it does much more than bring joy to a child’s heart. For wish kids like Kate, who are faced with critical illnesses, a wish-come-true provides them with strength to battle through darkness and hope for healthier, happier days ahead.
