Kale Takes Flight

Eight-year-old Kale from Dieppe, NB is one little firecracker! She has a smile that can light up a whole room and a heart of gold that makes you want to be a child again and just have fun. But life isn’t always fun and games for Kale… She was diagnosed with stage 4-5 kidney disease when she was a little over a year old, and needs constant treatment.

With only 10-15 percent of her kidneys working, Kale must get needles as often as once a week to ensure that her health remains the best it can be. She also must be fed through a feeding tube every night so that her body has all the nutrients it needs to help her grow.

Whether she's spending time with her family at home or outside swimming with siblings and friends, there's nothing that holds Kale back. In fact, her outgoing personality and imagination are what brought her to determine her one true wish: “to fly!”

In August 2016, Kale and her family began their one-of-a-kind wish trip towards the International Balloon Festival of St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, QC. The highlight of her trip was her on her Wish Day, where she flew in a hot-air balloon, thousands of feet in the sky, where she could see everything from above!

In 2016, Make-A-Wish® Atlantic Provinces celebrates 15 years of granting magical wishes just like Kale’s. This is only made possible thanks to the generosity of volunteers, donors, sponsors and partners who support our magical wish-granting mission.

When a wish is granted, it does much more than bring joy to a child’s heart. For kids like Kale, who are faced with life-threatening medical conditions, a wish-come-true provides them with strength to battle through darkness and gives them hope for healthier, happier days ahead.

Be part of the magic and transform the lives of children facing life-threatening medical conditions. Help grant a wish by donating today.
