How Two Wish Moms Found Strength Together
In this heartfelt conversation, wish moms Veronica and Lynn ask each other honest questions about motherhood, resilience, and the strength they found in supporting one another through their daughters’ cancer journeys.

Veronica and Lynn would never have dreamed their maternity leave would play out how it did; both of their daughters, Emilia and April, respectively, were diagnosed in the first few months of their lives with leukemia. Instead of enjoying the early days of motherhood, both moms spent months in the hospital with their daughters, facing fear and uncertainty. What carried them through was each other’s support — and finding small moments of joy, strength, and resilience in themselves and their daughters.
Veronica’s husband, Joe, first introduced the two women. He met Lynn and after speaking, realized that the two new moms were in a similar position. He called Veronica and explained there was another mom in the oncology unit that he thought she should connect with. As they were the only two families on the oncology unit with a baby, there was an instant connection that was unlike any other relationship in their lives.
A few days later Lynn knocked on Emilia’s hospital room door. Introductions soon turned into daily hallway walks; one of the few safe activities they could do with their sick daughters during COVID-19. Lynn and Veronica recalled during their walks through the hospital hallways they’d have “one hand with the IV pole and the other [hand] with the baby.”
Since then, they’ve remained closely connected, supporting one another throughout their daughters’ medical journeys and even sharing in a wish experience. Both Emilia and April wished to visit their favourite theme park, and with the support of Make-A-Wish Canada, their daughters were able to see that wish come true — together.
Recently, the two moms sat down for a candid conversation about their experiences during this time.
