Daphne radiates happiness and is her mom Amanda’s little superhero. While Amanda was excitedly awaiting her little bundle of joy, things took a turn for the worst at her 20-week ultrasound when the technician identified a concern prompting a referral to a local children’s clinic. She went to the children’s clinic for another ultrasound, and it was here she was given the devastating news that Daphne would be born with multiple congenital heart defects. “In that moment, I was flooded with thoughts about what kind of life Daphne would have and whether she could survive,” Amanda shared. Daphne was also born with a birth defect leaving the back of her nasal passage blocked by bone or tissue, preventing air from flowing freely.
Since birth, Daphne has courageously undergone three open heart surgeries, a heart surgery that went through her back, and multiple procedures on her nose, ears, and chest. In total she has had 11 surgeries and spent 293 days in the hospital, each moment a testament to her incredible spirit and strength. Today Daphne is seven years old and although she has faced many health struggles, she faces every day with a smile. She will likely need additional open-heart surgeries in the future but is doing well now, and her family embraces the journey. “I remind her constantly that while her heart defect is a part of her, it does not define her,” Amanda shared.
Daphne has a passion for certain intergalactic characters, which inspired her wish to go to her favourite theme park. From the moment her mom told Daphne that her wish was coming true, she jumped with joy with tears of happiness in her eyes. Her excitement has since been contagious as she eagerly anticipates seeing all her favourite characters. She dreams of wearing costumes with her family and making unforgettable memories together. “Hearing that she will receive the one thing she desires most, and being able to share that experience with her, creates a lasting memory that inspires us all,” Amanda shared. “[The wish] shows us that her fight has purpose, allowing her to embrace life like any other child. Together, we will create incredible memories that capture the essence of this uplifting journey.” Daphne is so excited for her wish to soon come true!
