From the moment she was born, Angel has shown incredible strength. Shortly after birth, she faced serious respiratory challenges and spent much of her first year of life at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario, often away from her family. During that time, Angel was diagnosed with visual and hearing impairments, diabetes insipidus, and cerebral palsy, a difficult beginning for such a young child.
Now seven years old, Angel is a sweet and joyful child whose smile lights up every room. She requires oxygen support, receives nutrition through a G-tube, and uses a wheelchair for mobility. However, none of this defines her. Through it all, Angel gets stronger every day. Though she is non-verbal, she connects with the world through sound, touch, and movement, especially through music. Her gentle spirit and positive energy shine through as she spends more time at home, surrounded by the people who love her most.
As Angel grows, she has found joy in simple but meaningful moments. She loves relaxing in the hot tub, splashing in the backyard pool, going for walks to the park with her family, and spending time with friends at school. Being at home surrounded by familiarity and love has become an important part of her happiness.
Sensory experiences play a powerful role in how she explores and understands the world. Music, gentle vibration, and soothing movement can help her feel calm and secure. Some of her favourite things include listening to The Wiggles, cuddling her cats, and playing with sensory toys that respond to her touch.
When Angel found out she was being prescribed a wish, her family knew it could become something truly meaningful for her. Her wish was for sensory toys and a space designed especially for her. A place that would bring comfort, calm, and joy. Because Angel is prone to seizures, creating a carefully designed environment is essential to help her feel safe and supported. With soft lighting, calming music, and a projector that fills the ceiling with gentle wonder, her sensory toys transform her room into a peaceful retreat made just for her.
Her wish became a turning point. Her family watched as she explored her new sensory space for the first time. As she learned how to start and stop the music on her own, they witnessed something special: her smile, giggle, and growing sense of independence.
Today, Angel’s wish offers her moments of calm and connection. It is a safe and comforting space where she can explore the world on her own terms. And for her family, seeing Angel light up at home is a wish come true.
