Noah’s Story

Still wishing   Still wishing

Noah was diagnosed with a brain tumour when he was eight years old. He underwent a nine-hour brain surgery and learned that he had a very rare and aggressive central nervous system cancer called ATRT. He immediately started an intense treatment protocol to give him the best chance at avoiding relapse. Since his diagnosis, Noah has completed three rounds of chemotherapy, followed by three rounds of high dose chemotherapy and three bone marrow transplants. He travelled to Jacksonville, Florida where he underwent 28 rounds of proton beam radiation. After one year of maintenance –which included monthly lumbar punctures as well as daily medications at home (18 pills a day)–he completed treatment in October 2020 and is currently cancer free!

Noah continues to be monitored by his team of doctors at Sick Kids and has quarterly brain and spine MRIs. He has a creative soul and loves to draw, dance and sing. Noah enjoys brain teaser puzzles, trivia, riddles and hanging out with his family and friends. Although Noah’s wish has been impacted by the pandemic, he said, “Thinking of my wish has helped me to fight harder to beat cancer.” His mom continues, “a wish gives Noah hope on days when he is not feeling very hopeful. Since Noah’s cancer journey began, he has been quite depressed, and it’s been really hard to see him so sad and worry about things an 11-year-old old shouldn’t have to worry about. This wish represents hope and fun things to come! He has felt so isolated for almost three years now, and I cannot wait to see him smile and talk about his wish for years to come!”
