Oakley, 5 (liver disease)
I wish to go to Walt Disney World
Oakley was diagnosed with a rare liver disease when she was 11 months old. One of the many symptoms that comes along with her diagnosis is an extreme itch. For the first few years of her life, Oakley was suffering an itch described as unstoppable, to the point where she would cause damage to her skin.
After multiple appointments, her team at Sick Kids mentioned a study medication to help control the itch. Since starting on the medication, Oakley’s condition has improved tremendously, however her liver is still slowing failing and she will need a liver transplant in the future.
She is a fun-loving six-year-old girl who loves rainbows, unicorns and all things girly! Oakley enjoys riding her bike, playing games with her family, dancing and singing.
Her wish to go to Walt Disney World came true at the end of 2020 and is a time that she will never forget. Time that she was able to spend with her family and just be a kid again. When asked about what the wish meant, her mom said, “Oakley’s wish meant the world to myself and my husband. Seeing her face light up when we told her that it was going to come true just melted my heart! I don’t think we have ever seen her that happy before. She felt so special and so she should.”
