Make-A-Wish® Canada is dedicated to the engagement of volunteers across Canada wherever possible. We have a long history of working with volunteers which includes adhering to best practices and ensuring a rich and fulfilling experience. At Make-A-Wish Canada, we believe that building a successful volunteer program is an important part of the wish discovery and granting process, to ensure every eligible child receives the most out of their wish.

Your Make-A-Wish® Canada Journey Starts Today!

At every level of the organization, volunteers are critical to our mission. Your time and unique talents are an essential part of bringing strength and hope to wish kids when they need it the most. In fact, our volunteers are at the heart of every wish experience.

Make-A-Wish Canada (MAWC) volunteers consider their work impactful and meaningful. Their efforts are rewarded – not in dollars or cents – but in the incredible difference they make in the lives of our wish kids. Volunteers even have the freedom to choose when and how they would like to help transform lives in our community.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with us! Before you apply to volunteer, please note the following:

  • The minimum age to volunteer is 18 (at the time of application) Some exceptions for events may be made, reach out to [email protected] if you are under the age of 18.
  • There are no set hours for a typical volunteer opportunity. The amount of time depends on the nature of the wish or event. However, volunteers are required to commit to a minimum of two wishes or events per year.
  • As the majority of roles at Make-A-Wish Canada involve close contact with wish children, their families, and others, MAWC has determined that COVID-19 vaccinations are mandatory for volunteers in the following programs: wish granting, in-office, members of the national board of directors and the chapter advisory boards. Volunteers in these roles will be asked to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccinations.
  • Due to the nature of our work, all volunteers must successfully complete a criminal background check as part of the initial onboarding process and every three (3) years thereafter. Make-A-Wish Canada will not onboard/utilize a volunteer who has been convicted of a crime that is violent or sexual in nature. Other criminal convictions will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
