Ayrianna’s Wish Marks a Milestone

Fifteen-year-old Ayrianna was diagnosed with neurofibromatosis, a genetic disorder that causes tumours to develop anywhere in the nervous system. These tumours are often benign, but cause serious complications to those affected. Ayrianna has three brain tumours and could develop more throughout her life.

Ayrianna was excited to wish for the chance to have her moment in the spotlight and feel special for something other than her medical condition. She wished to have a Hollywood-themed party where she would be treated like a real movie star.

On the day of her wish, Ayrianna was pampered like a celebrity: she had her hair and makeup done and a formal gown was delivered to her hotel room for her to wear that night. When she was ready for her night to begin, Ayrianna travelled to the Palace Theatre in Calgary in a limousine with a police escort leading the way. Upon arrival at her party, she was greeted by cheering fans and swarms of paparazzi and reporters. More than 160 people attended the party to celebrate Ayrianna.

“My favourite part was seeing everyone there to support her. It’s incredible to see a community come together like that,” says Ayrianna’s mom, Crystal.

At the celebration, guests enjoyed theatrical and musical performances by Masks International Show, Jase Nelson, Frank Boltz Hip Hop, Michael King, Kacey Fifield, Denny

Eddy, and DJ Sean Croal. To close the event, Ayrianna herself sang for her adoring fans. Ayrianna was also presented with a Hollywood award for Most Inspiring Kid.

“Her energetic personality is infectious and everyone who meets her can instantly see her love for life and desire to enjoy every situation,” says

Make-A-Wish® Southern Alberta board chair, Lynne Douglas.

Ayrianna‘s Hollywood-themed party was the 500th wish granted by  Make-A-Wish Southern Alberta since the chapter was established in 1995.

“500 is such a milestone for us. We’re granting about 50 wishes a year and we keep increasing the number of wishes annually,” says Kim Anthony, CEO, Make-A-Wish Southern Alberta. “We look forward to the next 500.”

When a wish is granted, it does much more than bring joy to a child’s heart. For kids like Ayrianna who are living with critical illnesses, a wish-come-true provides them with strength to battle through darkness and gives them hope for healthier, happier days ahead.
