RIDE FOR WISHES 2020:
$ 406,000 raised to grant the wishes of children
Montréal, September 21st, 2020 – Between September 12 and 19, 2020, RIDE FOR WISHES was held, a hopeful fundraising event open to all, that brings people together. Organized by the Make-A-Wish foundation, the objective of this unprecedented event was to raise as much funds as possible to grant children with critical illnesses their most heartfelt wish.
A wish is something that gives kids the opportunity to look outside their illness — it restores a sense of childhood back to the child and normalcy back to the family. A wish allows children to see a better future and gives them the strength to follow their treatments.
“Children with critical illnesses experience isolation. More than ever, they need hope and joy. Events like RIDE FOR WISHES show us how united our community is around our mission. It's fantastic! », recalls Michelle Sylvestre, Regional Vice-President for Quebec of the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Mission accomplished for this first edition of RIDE FOR WISHES! The Foundation raised over $ 406,000, thanks to generous donors and participants who rode for fun or for the challenge, respecting the rules of social distancing. More than 600 cyclists have crisscrossed the province in the last week, in order to give the chance to critically ill children to have their wish granted.
Many corporate teams joined the families and individuals who rode, walked or ran for wishes. These include the teams of our Gold partners FedEx and Quebec Blue Cross. "We can count on the support of exceptional partners who, in addition to their donations, have encouraged us and also rode for wishes", says Pierre Thériault, founder and executive producer of 48-HOUR RIDE.
Jérôme, 13 years old, wish child and honorary president of the event, joins the world boxing champion, Marie-Eve Dicaire, ambassador of the event and the Foundation to thank from the bottom of his heart the Gold partners of this edition of RIDE FOR WISHES, FedEx and Quebec Blue Cross, all the participants and all the donors without whom the mission of Make-A-Wish could not come true.
