Marie-Eve Dicaire swaps her gloves for a bike

Montreal, September 11, 2020 – Between September 12 and 19, 2020, the world boxing champion, Marie-Eve Dicaire, will ride for wishes for the benefit of the Make-A-Wish / Rêves d'enfants foundation.

In order to realize the most heartfelt wish of children with critical illness, the professional boxer will participate in RIDE FOR WISHES, a unifying, flexible and open-to-all fundraising event.

"Having fulfilled my childhood dream of becoming a professional boxer myself, I wanted to reach the highest heights in order to inspire young people to believe in themselves and to follow their dreams to the end ”, explains Dicaire.

In fact, the boxer, holds the title of ambassador of the event. Watch her invitation to participate:

RIDE FOR WISHES will take place, remotely, between September 12 and 19, 2020. Two experiences are available to participants wishing to raise donations:

  • Ride for fun, ride for at least 48 minutes;
  • Ride for the challenge, 48 cumulative hours of cycling.

The experiences can be done individually, as a family or as a team.

In addition, it is possible to contribute by making a donation directly to the Foundation, without participating in the event.

Quebec may have been on pause in the spring, but there was no pause for children with critical illnesses. Their illnesses and treatments continued despite the coronavirus. In fact, many more children have been diagnosed with critical illness. A record number of children are waiting for their wishes to come true. More critically ill children need hope and joy than ever before.

According to 13-year-old Jérôme, a wish gives hope that things will get better. Jerome has an immune system disorder and must undergo immunoglobulin transfusions every week to reduce the risk of a life-threatening infection. Granting the wish of a sick child replaces fear with confidence, sadness with joy and anxiety with hope.

Last winter, the Make-A-Wish / Rêves d'enfants foundation granted Jérôme his one true wish: to meet his idols Jonathan Marchessault and Marc-André Fleury of the Vegas Golden Knights. Watch his story here:

FedEx and Quebec Blue Cross are proud gold sponsors of our event RIDE FOR WISHES this year. These partners have shown their support for the Foundation by making our mission its own. Quebec Blue Cross has been working hand in hand with Rêves d'enfants for more than 30 years and is now joining the Make-A-Wish / Rêves d'enfants family.

Between September 12 and 19, grant wishes with this hopeful and unifying event. For more information, visit the RIDE FOR WISHES website: www.rideforwishes.ca

About Make-A-Wish® / Rêves d’enfantsMD :

Make-A-Wish® creates life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. We are on a quest to bring every eligible child's wish to life, because a wish is an integral part of a child's treatment journey. On October 1, 2019, Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada and Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Canada joined forces, with the goal of granting the wish of every eligible child across the country. Together, generous donors, supporters, staff and volunteers across the country help grant more than four wishes per day, on average. Since 1983, Make-A-Wish Canada has granted over 33,000 wishes across the country, over 1,600 last year alone. For more information about Make-A-Wish Canada, visit www.makeawishqc.ca.
