Nov. 24, 2015, TORONTO – This holiday season, Make-A-Wish® Canada would like to say thank you to its extraordinary partners throughout 2015, whose kindness allows volunteers and staff to grant magical, heartfelt wishes to children living with life-threatening medical conditions.
“With the help of strong corporate and individual supporters across the country, we have granted nearly 6,000 wishes since our organization’s inception in 1983,” says Jennifer Klotz-Ritter, president & CEO, Make-A-Wish Canada. “We are so grateful for the love and care these heroes put into our mission. Their ongoing efforts help kids realize their one true wish, at a time when it’s needed most.”
Generous partners like WestJet, that flew seven-year-old Ellie from Ottawa to Destin, Florida to meet six-year-old Brynne from Texas. After the mothers of both girls connected with each other online when finding out their daughters share the same rare medical condition, trichohepatoenteric syndrome, Ellie and Brynne asked for the same wish – to meet each other at the beach! With the help of TuGo Travel Insurance who helped fund Ellie’s wish, the girls and their families were given the opportunity to finally meet in person and focus on something much greater and more powerful than the illness – quality time with friends and loved ones.
Make-A-Wish® continues to celebrate the 2015 efforts of its corporate dream team in helping to make wishes come true:
Canadian Western Bank’s first year as the national presenting sponsor of Make-A-Wish®Rope for Hope was outstanding. The event met its goal of $1.2 million. In addition, employees of both Canadian Western Bank (CWB) and its sister company, National Leasing, participated, generating almost $90,000 collectively. A truly incredible result. Make-A-Wish looks forward to CWB returning in 2016 as the premiere sponsor of the signature event!
Honda Canada Foundation continues its pole position within our group of supporters. Honda Indy Toronto was an outstanding success, raising more than $73,000 this year. Honda was also proud to grant Liam’s wish to become a race car driver at the event.
Flight Centre's Wish Trek raised $50,000 through 19 brave individuals who trekked across Iceland for a week in support of wish kids.
Funding Innovation also came aboard to support our magical mission. By purchasing easel art, Canadians are helping our courageous kids realize their one true wish. To date, almost $100,000 has been raised.
Rob Suggitt from Suggitt Publishers/The Hospital Activity Book for Children supported Make-A-Wish personally through his 30 Games in 30 Nights efforts. Over the period of a month, Rob attended a hockey game at every NHL rink across North America and raised more than $40,000 to support the magical mission.
Make-A-Wish has welcomed new supporters like Go RVing Canada, whose first annual National RV Weekend campaign reached its goal of $20,000!
