I wish to meet NBA superstar Stephen Curry

Daniella, 15

Daniellia is a fan of the Golden State Warriors, the San Francisco-based NBA team. In addition to basketball, she plays volleyball and ultimate frisbee. Her favourite genre of music is gospel, and the creative 15-year-old enjoys singing, playing the guitar and painting. If Daniellia is eating out with her family, she prefers an “all-you-can-eat” buffet. A heaping plate of spicy Jamaican food and red velvet cake as dessert is pure joy for Daniellia.

Daniellia was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer. When she learned she qualified for a wish, Daniellia knew she wanted to take her family to watch her NBA idol, Stephen Curry in San Francisco. Stephen is a point guard for the Golden State Warriors and is considered by many as one of the best shooters and players in the league’s history. “Basketball has been a very important part of my life and my family’s,” Daniellia said. “When I’m playing or watching basketball, it makes me extremely excited.”

Her wish took place over her 15th birthday. Daniellia joined a group of other wish kids who were invited to Chase Centre, an indoor arena in San Francisco and home to the Warriors. They received a behind the scenes tour of the facility and a meet and greet with Stephen. The point guard answered their questions, signed memorabilia, posed for photos, and shot hoops with them. Stephen presented Daniellia with a gift bag that included shoes and other apparel.

“I enjoyed vibing with Stephen Curry because it felt so natural,” Daniellia recalled of the experience. Stephen offered words of encouragement and inspiration and was impressed when Daniellia made a shot in front of him on her first attempt.

“Having a wish come through is something to look forward to,” concluded Daniellia, “and brings joy to yourself and your family.”
